Tacos. You can eat one at any time of the day. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or 2 am, a taco is always appropriate in my book. Bakersfield OTR in Over the Rhine has been on my list to check out for dinner for quite some time and I finally made it there the other night. Boy, was I not disappointed.
Bakersfield specializes in tacos, tequila, and whiskey and is located right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle on Vine Street. My first decision was simple. I decided to try the Bakersfield Margarita.
I love that my margarita came in a mason jar. A+ for presentation. It tasted good too. I could definitely taste the tequila in my margarita. To go with my margarita, I ordered chips and guacamole.
The guac was creamy and chunky. I like how there were small pieces of avocado in the guac. For my main course, it was a no brainer that I had to try some of the tacos. I decided to order 3 tacos and went with the Mole, Fish, and Cochinita Pibil. All of our tacos came together on a tray. How pretty!
Each taco was accompanied with a wedge of lime. I tried my fish taco first. It consisted of crispy mahi, a tabasco lime sauce, topped with a citrus slaw.
The fish was lightly fried to perfection. It was light and tender and the tangy slaw added a nice crunch.
Next I reached for the Cochinit Pibil. My waitress warned me that it was on the spicy side when I ordered and I said “bring it on!”
The Cochinita had braised pork with a habanero salsa and was topped with pickled onion and cilantro. This taco is seriously spicy, sweet, tender, and juicy. It challenged me a little bit because of the contrast between the heat and sweet. I couldn’t put it down because it was so good!
My final taco was the Mole. It had braised chicken and queso fresco with cilantro and pickled red onion on top.I tasted a hint of cinnamon on the chicken that was a nice balance against the cheese and red onion.
Jess ordered the Mole, Fish, and Short Rib tacos and ate hers right down too. Hi everyone!
Despite our hour long wait on a Wednesday night, I had an awesome meal at Bakersfield. My favorite dish was the Cochinita Pibil and I can’t wait to eat it again. I also loved the atmosphere. It wasn’t too muggy so they opened the front garage door and the restaurant was open to the street. I also really loved the light fixtures. Aren’t they cool?
What are you favorite taco toppings?
I love guacamole on my tacos and hot sauce.
