Croque Madame

Lazy Saturday mornings are my favorite.  I love sleeping in, drinking coffee in my PJ’s, and making breakfast.  Recently I watched an episode of Brunch with Bobby, with Bobby Flay on the Cooking Channel.  Bobby made Croque Madame and I instantly new I wanted to try his recipe.  One of my favorite restaurants in Cincinnati, Senate, has an awesome Croque Madame hot dog on their menu and I was inspired to make the sandwich at home.

Croque Madame is a traditional French sandwich that is basically a grilled ham and cheese with a fried egg on top.  Its brother sandwich is the Croque Monsieur which is a Croque Madame minus the egg.  I had my first Croque Monsieur when I was 11 years old and on vacation in France with my family.  One bite, and I was sold.

All stacked together, fried egg, sharp cheese sauce, ham and toast = yum!  One serving is a huge portion.  Next time I’ll cut my slices of bread thinner or maybe even only use one slice of bread (the recipe calls for two).  This recipe also takes a little more time and commitment than my normal breakfast sandwich or Greek yogurt.  So make sure you have enough time in the morning to make it.  Croque Madame would also be a very delicious dinner or “brinner” (breakfast for dinner).  Some green onions would also look pretty on top!  Bobby’s recipe is pretty delicious.  If you’d like to give it a try, here’s a link to it: Bobby Flay’s Croque Madame.

What’s your favorite “brinner” or breakfast for dinner?

I love breakfast burritos!
