A Tavola

Wood-fired oven pizza is my favorite and A Tavola know’s how to do it right.  A Tavola’s been on the scene since spring 2011 on OTR’s (Over the Rhine for you non-Cincinnatians) budding Vine Street.A-Tavola-Sign

The main ticket on A Tavola’s menu is of course pizza.  They’ve got a brick oven from Italy that bakes light, airy, crispy, pizza’s just the way I like them!  But let’s not jump ahead of ourselves, if you’ve been reading my blog for the past couple of months, you know that I like to start with a glass of wine and an appetizer.

Wine-1I had a glass of Tilia, Malbec Syrah.  It was nice full bodied red with just a little spice.

We started with the stuffed dates.  I love dates in cookies, granola bars, and especially when they’re stuffed with spicy sausage like these were!

Stuffed-Dates-1The dates were stuffed with a house sausage, wrapped in bacon, and topped with a sweet tomato sauce.  They were spicy and sweet and so delicious!  I’ll definitely have to try and find a good recipe to make these at home.  Remember the stuffed dates I had at Christmas?  Yum…

Next we decided to try one of the bruschettes on the menu.

Bruschette-1We went with the bacon tapenade with goat cheese and a balsamic reduction.  The bacon tapenade was piled nice and high on the baguette.

Bruschette-3It was crunchy and creamy with the goat cheese.  It was a little bit on the salty side, probably from the olives in the tapenade but I really enjoyed my piece.

My favorite dish of our meal, was by far, the Fig + Prosciutto pizza!  Look how beautiful it is.

Fig-and-Prosciutto-Pizza-1Not only is this pizza pretty to look at, it tastes darn good too. The topping include a fig jam, fontina cheese, prosciutto, with arugula as a finishing touch.  The crust is thin, light and crispy, and the prosciutto balanced out the sweetness from the fig jam, and the peppery arugula pulled all the favors together.

Don’t be afraid of this pizza because it’s not your standard pepperoni or ham!  Trust me, all of these ingredients work together and you won’t be sorry you tried it.

Jess loved it too!

Definitely go check out A Tavola.  They’ve got a great beer and wine selection to go with their awesome pizzas!
