Girls Weekend: Moerlein Lager House

After a full morning of Veggie Frittata and wandering around The City Flea, we decided to find a place where we could hang out for a while, watch a little baseball (the Reds were on), and get some food.  I’d tried the Moerlein Lager House a couple of weeks ago for the first time, and thought it would be a fun place to take Amanda and Megan.  We found a perfect spot on the patio with a view of the river.  I can’t believe I didn’t take a picture.  I think was too distracted by my hunger…

We each started with a beer.  I went for the Moerlein Northern Liberties Pale Ale.

A bunch of items on the menu looked good but I knew I didn’t want the fish taco’s because I’d had them there before.

Then, Amanda came up with a food proposal I could not refuse.  We’d get the Applewood Smoked Chicken Salad and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and split them.  Deal!

Megan opted for the Caprese Flatbread (basically a thin crust pizza).

Before our meals came, we decided to start with sweet potato chips and BBQ sauce! They were pretty good, but not amazing.  I think I’d rather have sweet potato fries.

And then the main event arrived.

Holy yum!  I loved everything!  I’m not sure if it was the heat, the beer, or if it was just delicious food but I really enjoyed our meal.

The chicken salad was smokey and sweet with cranberries, blue cheese, bacon, and spiced pecans.  And get this, the crab cakes were the real deal!  They were full of big chunks of crab.  I hate it when crab cakes contain more bread than crab.  At Moerlein, that’s definitely not the case.  These crab cakes were tender and juicy.  I squeezed lemon on top of mine to add a little zesty kick.  I was one happy camper with this meal!

Honestly, after my first time eating at Moerlein, I was so-so about the food.  But this meal was definitely a different experience.  I reccomend you give Moerlein Lager House a try!

Have you ever had a meal that changed your mind about a restaurant?
